StarStar had a very accomplished career in addition to her 3 US National titles including 2009 US National Reserve Champion. Star won every major trial in which in which she competed many more than once.

She was a proven breeder including the mother of  National Champion, Don (Star X Stineman’s Don). We were so fortunate Alasdair was able to compete with her and that she was part of our lives.

Below is Star’s dedication from the 2012 US National program; it says it all.

“It was not an auspicious beginning. She was rather small and her nose a bit too long.  On sheep she was clever, sensitive, and lightning fast.  She trained quickly and had a reasonable Nursery season, with her run in the Nursery Final ending in spectacular disqualification!

Her first year in Open produced strong results and she finished 13th in the US National and like most of our dogs following the nursery’s, she was on the market. She was offered to several well-known handlers but none had interest. It was then that Alasdair and small, sweet, quirky, brilliant Star began their journey as a very dangerous Open team.

Star Finals 05While top competitors passed on her, Star caught the discerning eye of Eileen Stineman, who purchased her in 2006. We will always be grateful to Eileen for allowing Star to live with us for nearly 7 months of the year and giving Alasdair the opportunity to compete with her every year until her retirement.  Her last run was at the 2011 Finals. The event culminated with Star winning her 3rd US National Championship in Carbondale at 10 ½ years old on tough, aggressive range sheep.

You only had to see them once to appreciate their remarkable partnership and trust in each other.  Star was a model of consistency, performing at the highest level for over 8 years; her responsiveness, courage and heart were obvious to even the casual observer.

It was an exceptional ending. She punched above her weight and each time she stepped on the field, you knew you were watching grace married with greatness.  You were watching a Champion.”
